John Kelly of Greencastle and Newtown

Country house

Newtown House

Galway

Built 30th Nov -0001

Description

'Newtown House was built in the early nineteenth century to an earlier structure by another Kelly family of returning attorneys who had acquired the northern Jamaican plantations of Crescent and Green Castle in the early nineteenth century. The immediate position of the service courtyard behind the house, eliminated any landscape prospects northwards allowed for the same level of supervision that they had enjoyed in Jamaica.'
