According to John Hughes, Liverpool Banks & Bankers 1760-1837. A history of the circumstances which gave rise to the industry and of the men who founded it (Liverpool, Henry Young & Sons, 1906) p. 79, Thomas Fletcher, Yates's former partner, had one-fourth of a mortgage of £16,000 on Fellowship Hall with 50 enslaved persons.
