T71/1607: letter from Manning & Anderdon, holding power of attorney for receipt of this claim. The letter refers to Samuel Kell King's affidavit, which states that the apprentices belong to his children, registered as such in triennial returns, and that he is their natural guardian. A.H. Beaumont is to counterclaim for a judgement of eight pounds currency; however, 'the affidavit further states the judgement to have been surreptitiously obtained against him and that he never had any dealings or transactions with Mr Beaumont in his life', but that by preferring to counterclaim in England, A.H. Beaumont has put it out of the power of Samuel Kell King to prove the vailidty of his children's claim by witnesses.
