T71/873: claim by W.S. Grignon, of Montego Bay, St James, as trustee of Dr Robt. Scarlett. Several counterclaims, including by W.S. Grignon himself as legatee etc., and from 'Mary Scarlett, 15 South Lambeth tenant for life £5000 Indre. 1815'. Counterclaim also from Samuel Dare, of 66 Newman Street, as 'assignee of J. R. Bowen and Sabina his wife legatees for £1000 upwards 24/6/1793'. S. Dare withdrew his counterclaim on 11/03/1837. A note dated 08/03/1837 states: 'vide statement of Messrs Larkins et al assignees' (Larkins headed a group of three counterclaiming as mortgagees). (Suggests deal?).
Jamaica Almanac (1828): estate registered to the heirs of Robert Scarlett, with 218 enslaved persons.
Samuel Dare is shown elsewhere as trustee for the Scarletts (and perhaps pursued this award in that capacity). See St James claim nos. 7 & 8 for Samuel Dare as married to P. A. Scarlett's daughter.
