T71/1606: letters from John Strachan, Caithness, Thurso [Scotland] dated 18 and 20/11/1835, 'I hope there will be no stopage or delay in paying me, I am truly a native of St Ann Jamaica or say a Creole, the above is my property left me by Father and mother.' In a further letter dated 24/10/1835, he said 'I am no imposter', having been born in 1764, and having been in the Maroon wars; he made repeated references to a valuation of £700 for the enslaved people.
