[sic] Shirley, which has been mentioned with distinction in the first report of the apprenticeship committee of the House of Commons. Ibid. p. 216: 'on this and two smaller adjoining estates of the same proprietor, about five thousand pounds per annum are paid in wages for the free labor of the apprentices in their own time'.
