Parliamentary Papers p. 8.
T71/855: awarded to John Gale Vidal, St Catherine, owner-in-fee.
Times 11/12/1824 p. 4: sale of Shenton, as a result of James Wildman's bankruptcy, subject to an annuity for life of £800 of a lady aged about 71 years.
Kathleen Mary Butler, The economics of Emancipation: Jamaica and Barbados 1823-1843 (Chapel Hill and London, University of North Carolina Press, 1995) p. 60 shows this as mercantile interception; Vidal was the Mitchell's attorney in Jamaica, and therefore the relationship may have been sufficiently close not to require a counterclaim.
