T71/892: claim by Samuel Greatheed, owner-in-fee. Counterclaim from Samuel Greatheed of Landford Lodge, Wiltshire and John Greatheed of [133] Piccadilly, trustees under the will of Samuel Greatheed for a legacy of £24,000. Counterclaim admitted.

T71/500 p. 74: enslaved persons registered by P.F. Grant for Samuel Greatheed in 1834.

Caribbeana Vol V pp 50-51 and pp 52-53: Arnos Vale in West Indies Encumbered Estates Court (Mar 27-30 1858). Arnos Vale charged as to one moeity with jointure to Mrs Sophia Greatheed, widow of Samuel Greatheed [died 1827 sic, actually died 1829] and the entirety is charged with sum of £24000 for Samuel Greatheed's 3 younger children, John, Mary and Sophia. £200 arrears of jointure, £3,276 principal due to each of children. 'The estate has been unproductive since 1854.' The estate was sold for £10,500 to Rev F. Brathwaite. Samuel Greatheed[jun.]'s son William Samuel Greatheed had sold his commission and tried to turn around estate between 1850 and 1853, but Mrs Sophia Greatheed distrained on crops and stock, mules etc in 1855. Case in the Court of Chancery of Greatheed v Greatheed [ie John Greatheed v Sam Greatheed in 1833] ordered £10,000 of £24,000 then paid.

Times 30/5/1846: in the case of Greatheed v Greatheed, John and Samuel Greatheed (the two sons of Samuel Greatheed) were appointed executors, the estate charged with £24,000 for two children, mortgaged to Boddington & Davis. See also Times 13/5/1859 p 10 for Encumbered Courts case.
