Newton Stewart - 1832 - ????
Samuel Douglas left a reported £17,000 to build and endow the Free School at Newton Stewart. It is now the Douglas Ewart High School, althrough it no longer occupies the original building.
Under his will proved in 1799 Samuel Douglas left £17,000 to build a school at Newton Stewart, which was built 1832-34 and closed in 1922.The building is extant.
