Associated People (4)

The dates listed below have different categories as denoted by the letters in the brackets following each date. Here is a key to explain those letter codes:

  • SD - Association Start Date
  • SY - Association Start Year
  • EA - Earliest Known Association
  • ED - Association End Date
  • EY - Association End Year
  • LA - Latest Known Association
1817 [EA] - 1817 [LA] → Owner

Although William Caldwell of Kingston's will [proved in 1819] was silent on estate-ownership, his executor was Thomas Addison, who appears in that capacity for this estate, and William Caldwell of Kingston identified the estates of the Marquis of Sligo - who became the owner of this estate - as ones for which a new power of attorney would be required after his death.

1820 [EA] - → Executor
1820 [EA] - → Other

Sligo bought the enslaved people from this estate but it's not clear whether or not he also bought the land.

1820 [EA] - 1820 [LA] → Previous owner

Notes

Estate owned by William Caldwell in 1817. The enslaved people were sold to the Marquis of Sligo but the land appears not to have been sold to him. There appear to have been a number of estates called Somerset Hall/Hill in St Dorothy and their ownership has not been disentangled; therefore they have each been listed separately.
