Notes |
This group of enslaved people was inherited by Margaret Sutherland Gordon and her sister Alexie White Gordon from their father John Gordon at some point between 1823 and 1826. John Gordon had registered the enslaved people on his estate, called Bertram's Bower, in 1823. Other enslaved people from Bertram's Bower were inherited by Patrick Dunbar Gordon but later registered on his estate called Carrol. It's possible that Margaret and Alexie inherited the land from their father too, but no will has been found for John Gordon. |
