Notes

The ownership of this estate is uncertain. Certainly around 30 enslaved people were owned on Caledonia between 1817 and 1820 by John Ramsay, and in 1823 by his executors. There was also an agreement between the late Dr William Forbes and Abraham Hodgson whereby Hodgson was ensured payment and acted as trustee for around 30 more enslaved people. Entries in the almanacs would suggest these were two shares of the same plantation and the enslaved people settled upon the plantation, but this is a tentative suggestion.
