Notes |
Petersfield estate was situated in Mile Gully, Manchester. The enslaved people on this estate were registered in two groups (owned separately by Taylor Cathcart and Adam White) in the slave registers of 1817 and 1820 but registered collectively to White & Cathcart in the almanacs of this period. At some point between 1820 and 1823, Cathcart transferred 'his' enslaved people to Fyffeside, the estate he owned in Manchester, Jamaica. It's assumed that the land was owned by Cathcart and White jointly between 1817 and 1820 although Cathcart may have hired a gang of enslaved people to the estate rather than owning it in partnership. Richard Learmond was in possession of the enslaved people on this estate as executor from at least 1829 to 1834; the estate is still registered to him in the almanac of 1839 so it's assumed he continued in his role as executor; he may, however, have bought the estate or inherited it by then. |
