In an indenture executed at St Vincent 08/10/1802 on the eve of her marriage, Jane Campbell of Edinburgh conveyed the share in the estates [and enslaved people] she had inherited from her uncle Duncan Campbell of St Vincent (q.v.) to trustees. The property included her half of half of an estate of 720 acres named Success in the colony of Demerary. Duncan Campbell of St Vincent had noted in his will that he co-owned an unnamed estate in Demerara with Charles Hamilton (q.v.). LBS has not yet connected this estate with either of the two Success estates held by John Gladstone and Richard Michael Jones respectively in the Slave Registers, but it was possibly the former, of which Gladstone had bought half in 1811 and the other half in 1816. |
