Associated Claims (1)

£8,558 2S 2D
Tentative association of the College estate owned by the SPG with the claim for the SPG, which possibly combines College and Uphill.

Notes

The estate was owned by 'The Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts'. The returns in the Barbados Slave Registers were by Foster Clarke as Attorney to the Society. James Heywood Markland was the Society's Treasurer. The College and its estate was founded by Christopher Codrington and turned over to the Society in 1703. The College estate appears to have been one part of a single compensation: see notes on the claim Barbados 4215 [410 enslaved] and on the 1832 return for the Uphill estate.
