Following emancipation the firm refocused its activities on Australia and New Zealand, shipping large amounts of colonial produce back to Britain and providing capital for local investment. Upon Thomas Kington's death in 1857, the firm became Miles Bros & Co, headed by Edward Peach Miles, son of Philip John Miles. |
