Son of Thomas Kington (1771-1827) and Charlotte Miles (daughter of William Miles and sister of Philip John Miles). Partner with his uncle Philip John Miles.
1851 census living at Park Place Weston-super-Mare aged 55, West India merchant born Clifton Gloucs., with son Philip, daughter Caroline and sister Susanna (fundholder aged 49). By 1861 Susanna Ann Kington aged 58 fundholder is at 2 Rodney Place Clifton with her niece Caroline May (she died 09/12/1879 previously of Charlton house Wraxall afterwards of Manilla House Clifton but lately of 2 Rodney Place Clifton, leaving £90,000, her executors were two of her Kington-Oliphant nephews).

After emancipation refocused the activities of Miles, Kington & Co in Melbourne, Australia, and subsequently at Lyttelton, New Zealand, where the firm played an important role in developing New Zealand's colonial trade. Upon Kington's death the firm changed its name to Miles & Co.
Wills of Thomas Kington of Charlton House Somerset were proved (a) 15/10/1827 and (b) 13/04/1857. The first was Thomas Kington senior (q.v.); the second this man, the awardee. In his will of 1857, Thomas Kington specified his share in Miles & Kington as 4/16ths, and made provision for his sons Philip Oliphant and William Miles Nairne to take on his shares when they entered the partnership.
