Biography

Unsuccessful counterclaimant for all or part of the compensation for 126 enslaved people in the Virgin Islands as legatee under the will of Daniel Donovan; the compensation under this award was paid to the partners in the London merchants Reid Irving (q.v.).

  1. In 1851, Eliza Robertson aged 54 widow born West Indies was a visitor at 7 Gill Street St Silas Liverpool, as was Johanna Donovan unmarried aged 52 'Keeps a school', also born West Indies. The house was headed by a tailor, James Litchfield and his wife. There were two other 'visitors': presumably it was operating as a lodging house.
