1782 - ????
Probably William Scott Kirkland, who was in Grenada at the time of the 1824/5 slave registration but appears to have moved to Glasgow by the early 1830s at the latest.
William Scott Kirkland appears at 14 Queen Street in the 1843-4 Glasgow P.O. Directory; in the 1851 census William S Kirkland 'Patient' [=Retired] Merchant born Dumbartonshire aged 69 was living at 14 Queen Street with his wife Eliz M. Kirkland, aged 47 who was born in Grenada West Indies. Their seven children (the oldest child Mary was born c. 1830) are all shown as born in Scotland.
William Kirkland is described as 'my friend', executor and residual legatee of William Scott in the latter's will 'entered 22/02/1821' in which Scott left legacies to his 4 reputed sons and 3 reputed daughters by Marianne Cuming (a 'free Mestize') and his Fair Hill estate to Mariane Cuming with restrictions on her right to dispose of it or the enslaved. The estate then went to the 7 children. William Scott Kirkland was presumably the son of William Kirkland.
