A former planter in Grenada who returned to Edinburgh c. 1834, awarded the compensation as owner-in-fee of the Belvedere, Gouyave [?] and Maran estates on Grenada and also acting separately for Elizabeth Erskine Countess of Buchan (q.v.) for her awards elsewhere in Grenada.
In 1841, Thomas Duncan was living at 78 Great King Street, Edinburgh, age 60, Merchant, with Janet age 40, Thomas age 35 (also a merchant), James age 10, Henry age 9, Jane age 7, Alexander age 4 and Isabella age 2 and 5 female servants.
There is a watercolour of the Maran estate in the John Carter Brown Library in Providence, Rhode Island.

Assistant Commissioners' Note (bound in to T71/880) says of Grenada no. 562: 'This claim [on the Crayfish estate] has been made under a power of attorney from the owner previous to her marriage tho' it also appears from an unauthenticated copy that a power has been granted by the Countess of Buchan and her trustees to Thomas Duncan who has left the country without registering such power or leaving any substitution but he has left the charge and direction of the property with the former Attorney of the Claimant, and of which he is now the Manager'.
