Frances Lawrence then Gordon (née Hilton)

1753 - 30th Oct 1837

Claimant or beneficiary

Biography

Slave-owner in Jamaica, apparently resident. Her will (made in 1836) was proved in London 06/08/1838 by her grandson William Whitehorne Lawrence. She left compensation money and the unexpired terms of her apprentices to her Lawrence grandchildren (Oswald Brodie, Elizabeth Ann, Frances Gordon, Mary Brodie, Florence Hall, Charles Hilton).

  1. William Lawrence married Frances Hilton in St Ann, Jamaica, in 1776. William Whitehorne, son of William and Frances Lawrence, was baptised in St Ann in 1778. William Whitehorne Lawrence had a son, also named William Whitehorne, born in Jamaica in 1811. This second William Whitehorne Lawence is presumably the grandson who proved Frances Gordon's will, making her originally Frances Hilton and remarried at some point when a widow to someone with the surname Gordon.

  2. Frances Gordon, the mother of the late William Whitehorne Lawrence of Lawrence Park, Jamaica, died 30/10/1837 in Jamaica, age 84.
