Biography

Party to a Chancery suit for an award in St Thomas-in-the-East Jamaica. In London 1812 (when he married Jane Maria Macqueen at St Marylebone) and probably 1845. The death of a Lawrence Kortright was registered at St Pancras Q3 1849 but no will or probate have yet been found for him.

  1. Lawrence Kortright, Adm. Fell.-Com. (age 18) at TRINITY, Apr. 18, 1803. S. of Cornelius, of Santa Cruz, West Indies. School, Hitcham, Berks. '[Name only mentioned in Caribbeana, V. 317.]'

  2. In 1845, Major Kortright was among the three dozen members of the Provisional Committee of the Barbados General Railway, when his address was given as Great Coram Street, Brunswick Square, director of the North Jamaica and City and West End railways.

  3. John Macqueen, probably the same man as the counterparty in the Chancery suit, was one of the witnesses at Lawrence Kortright's wedding on 16/07/1812 at St Marylebone.
