Elizabeth James, inherited a part-share in Old England estate, Manchester Jamaica.
Living with her niece Elizabeth Williams Rowe and the latter's husband Rev. James John Rowe (both of whom q.v.) at Mount le Grand, Heavitree, Exeter, in the census of 1851. She is recorded as widowed, age 84, "Landed Proprietor", born in Jamaica Lucerne. Also living in the same family was Ann Williams (q.v.). Birth circa 1767 in Jamaica, as inferred from the census of 1851, her parents and the details of her inheritance are unknown. Maiden name inferred to be Williams, but not proven. Possibly the same woman as the Elizabeth James awarded compensation for two enslaved people under Manchester no. 333.
Death 13/08/1854 "At Heavitree, aged 86, Elizabeth, widow of Hugh James, M.D. and mother of Mrs Hovenden, Bath." Death 13/08/1854 "... at the residence of the Rev. J. Rowe. Heavitree, Mrs. Elizabeth James, widow of Dr. James, many years physician at Kingston, Jamaica, aged 87." Burial of Elizabeth James of Mont-le-grand at Heavitree, 17/08/1854 aged 89 years.
