Biography

Absentee slave-owner and Sussex land-owner, awarded the compensation as tenant-in-tail for two estates on Antigua after his father Inigo Freeman Thomas (q.v.) had claimed for the compensation.

  1. The will of Freeman Thomas late of Ratton who died 08/03/1859 was proved 16/05/1859 by executors including his widow Amelia Thomas: he left £16,000 in personalty.

  2. The descendants of Freeman Thomas included his (posthumous) grandson Freeman Freeman-Thomas, 1st Marquess of Willingdon, who has an ODNB entry as 'governor-general of Canada and viceroy of India.'
