Biography

  1. Almost certainly Catherine, "free quadroon" baptised Hanover 29/08/1798, daughter of Thomas Daly (q.v.) and sister of Patrick Daly (q.v.), both of Woodville.

  2. She was the mother, by Hyacinth Cunniffe or Cuniffe, of Rebecca Thomasina Cunniffe, baptised in Hanover 07/05/1829, aged 2 years, “white by law”, parents’ address Woodville.

  3. Catherine Daly, Hanover, was reported as owner of 4 enslaved in 1820, 1824 and 1833, 5 in 1822, 1826, 1828 and 1831.

  4. Thomas Hart and Catherine Daly had daughters Georgiana and Anne Eliza baptised in Manchester on 20/4/1834 (unlike other contemporary entries in the register, no address or father’s occupation is entered; father perhaps deceased but not stated so).

  5. Catherine Daly was in possession of Timbuctoo (300 acres) in 1845.
