Awarded compensation for the Hopewell estate in Jamaica as executor of George Burton of Trinity House, who had taken security over the estate through a sub-mortgage for the repayment of £8000 to William White in 1796.
Probably the Daniel Stephenson who was a director of the London Assurance Company between at least 1836 and his death by 1847.
Will of Daniel Stephenson of Guildford Street (presumably the father) proved 14/05/1818; "In Upper Guildford-street, in his 84th year, Daniel Stephenson esq. Formerly of Blandensburg in America, and afterwards for many years a most respectable merchant in Tower-street, London"; will of Daniel Stephenson of St Pancras proved 12/01/1847. Burial of Daniel Stephenson aged 67 of Guildford Street St Pancras Parish Chapel 02/01/1847.
Captain Daniel Stephenson lived at 30 Guildford Street from 1817 to 1848.
Memorial in St Pancras Parish Church: "Captain DANIEL STEPHENSON, 1846, an elder brother of Trinity House, and ELIZABETH RUTHERFORD STEPHENSON, (no date) his wife, second daughter of John Sims of Walthamstow." (She was interred in the catacombs, Highgate Cemetery).
There is an account of the successive involvements in the Hopewell estate of Burton, John Cowell as consignee, the claimants George Cowell and Felix Booth, and then Stephenson, in the report of White v Parnther (1829). Stephenson was an appellant in this case with William White's nephew (also William White).
