Claimant or beneficiary

Biography

  1. Probably the Francis Ceal who was a tea-dealer at 5 St Swithins Lane but his path to acting as assignee of Mordecai Palach[e] (who appears to have been a Jamaican resident) is unclear.  A Francis Ceal appears with Robert Wild as cider-merchants of Seething Lane, small creditors of Robert Bogle senior, Robert Bogle junior, and William Scott (who were bankrupts in 1772). This may be the father of the Francis Ceal in the compensation records.

  2. Francis Ceal retired tea-merchant aged 71 appears in the 1861 census at 5 Castle Street in Dover, and his death aged 81 was registered at Dover in September 1871. Pallots Marriage Index 1780-1837 shows a Francis G[?] Ceal marrying an Esth [or possibly Elizabeth] Moravia in London in 1824.
