John Hamilton of Sundrum, son of John Hamilton of Sundrum (1739-1821) and Lillias Montgomerie (d. 1827), who was the sister of the 12th Earl of Eglington; great-nephew of Robert Hamilton of Bourtree Hill (1698-1773) and Rozelle House, who owned Pemberton Valley with his brother John (1702-1739). Together with his sister-in-law Lady Jane Montgomerie (q.v.), and her sister Lady Lillias Oswald (q.v.) and the latter's husband Richard Alex. Oswald (q.v.), John Hamilton was awarded the compensation for the Pemberton Valley estate and Boscabelle Pen, both in St Mary Jamaica.
T71/856 St Mary Nos. 267 and 269. It is not clear why it is John Hamilton rather than Archibald Hamilton who appears as a claimant in this award.
