Biography

  1. Thomas Shannon, an Irishman from Co.Clare, resided in Jamaica from 1822 and was editor of the The Despatch and Jamaica Gazette, established at Kingston c. 1832 1832-40. He left Jamaica in 1840 but had returned by 1842. The Despatch merged with The Kingston Chronicle in 1840. His widow ran a “high class seminary” in Kingston. Brother of Mashod Shannon (q.v.). He died at London after landing from Jamaica in 1844.

  2. Marriage "In this City [Kingston], on the 21st inst. by the Rev. Mr. Bennite, Roman Catholic Minister, Mr. Thomas Shannon, Master of the Lancasterian Academy, to Miss Catherine Hannah, youngest daughter of James Dunkerly, Esq. late of this City."
