Biography

The 'Marquis of Breadalbane' was awarded compensation for the Hope estate in St Andrew, Jamaica, as trustee of a marriage settlement of 1819, almost certainly that of the 2nd Duke of Buckingham (q.v.) with Mary, the daughter of the 1st Marquess of Breadalbane in 1819.

  1. The first Marquess of Breadalbane (b. 1762) died 29/03/1834: logically, it should be the son (1796-1862) awarded the compensation, but it is possible that there might have been some confusion of the two men.

  2. The second Marquess of Breadalbane has an entry in the ODNB as politician and courtier.
