Elizabeth Mitchell Muirhead, born 22/10/1812 and baptised 28/04/1814 in Kingston, Jamaica, daughter of Sarah Ivy Board, "free mulatto", and Robert Boyes Muirhead. With her four half-siblings, she inherited a share in her mother's estate.
The will of Robert Boyes Muirhead gives his case for his common-law marriage to Sarah Ivy Board and describes a scene where he acknowledged her as his wife before witnesses in Edinburgh at some point during or before 1828.
Of Scotland in 1834. George Armstrong, commission agent, lately residing No. 5 Annandale Street, and Elizabeth Mitchell Muirhead, residing No 32 Dublin Street, daughter of the late Robert Byes Muirhead, residenter in Glasgow, have three times proclaimed in order to marriage in the parish church of St Mary's [Edinburgh], and no objections have been offered, 10/09/1837.
Living at 6 Mansfield Place, St Mary's Parish, Edinburgh, at the baptism of her son James Muirhead Armstrong 11/02/1847.
Eliza Mitchell Armstrong, married to George Armstrong, soft[?] goods merchant, died 08/11/1867 at 5 Melrose Street, Glasgow, age 51. Parents Robert Boyes Muirhead, receiver-general, Jamaica (deceased) and Sarah Ivy Muirhead, MS Board (deceased). Informant J. Muirhead Armstrong, son.
