Biography

Mrs Frances Mason of Hyde Cottage, Southsea, sole claimant and awarded compensation for estate in St Ann’s, Jamaica.

  1. No sign of a Frances Mason in Southsea in the 1841 or 1851 census. No obvious death registered from the beginning of Civil Registration 01/07/1837 and no burial found.

  2. Mrs Frances Gallimore, widow of the late John Reid Gallimore, registered enslaved people on Knutsford plantation in 1817 and 1820. The estate (or possibly just the enslaved people) was leased to John Lothian in 1823 and 1826. In 1829 the enslaved people were registered by William Parke as attorney of Mrs Frances Mason, formerly Frances Gallimore.

  3. Frances Gallimore married Robert Mason 12/07/1827 in Stamford St Michael, Lincolnshire.

  4. Frances was the sister of James Parke and William Parke of the Thicketts. William left her £5000 in trust in his will written in 1810 and proved in 1813 as well as legacies for her three children with John Reid Gallimore and another son with the surname Mason but the forename left blank. She was born in September 1787 and baptised 13/06/1790 in St Ann, Jamaica, daughter of William Parke of Hermitage and the Thicketts and his wife Eleanor Baldwin nee Crosse.
