Biography

Awarded compensation for 3 enslaved people in Vere in 1834. Her mother Mrs Jane Rodon Christian was listed as owner of 63 enslaved people (whom she registered herself) in the Slave Register of 1817. In the 1820 Slave Register, these enslaved people were registered by Henry Lord Garrigues as attorney for John Hewitt Smith [Jane Rodon Smith's husband] and were attached to Riverside estate in Vere. It's not clear if Mrs Jane Rodon Christian also sold the land to which the enslaved people had been attached. In the 1811 Jamaica Almanac, based on the givings-in of the March Quarter of 1809, Riverside is listed against G.B.C. Christian. Jane Rodon Christian is not listed as an estate owner in any of the almanacs.

Jane Rodon Christian, daughter of Paul Christian and his wife Jane Rodon, was baptised in Vere, 23/01/1791.
