Arthur Morier Lee

1847 - 1909

Biography

Partner in Richard and Thomas Neave & Co. (q.v.). Son of Sir George Philip Lee of Windlesham Court Surrey and Charlotte, daughter of John Ede of Upper Harley Street). Married Catharine Anna Spooner December 1877. The ODNB entry for Catharine Anna Lee describes him as 'a barrister from a Surrey family with interests in West Indies sugar.' In fact he also appears to have been an active merchant, a partner in the Neave firm and then in his own name. He was described as of Brynbanan near Bala Merionethshire and Bendals estate Antigua on his death at 51 Welbeck Street in 1909, when he left £43,817 (resworn from £38,858).

ODNB online, C.J. Bearman, 'Lee [nee Spooner], Catharine Anna [Kate] (1859-1904), singer and folk-song collector'; National Probate Calendar 1909. John Ede, Arthur Morier Lee's maternal grandfather, was a merchant, probably the John Ede who was a partner in predecessors of Bond & Pearse (q.v.).
