Andrew Gregory Johnston

Claimed unsuccessfully for the compensation under an award in Portland (which was paid to the mortgagees) and known to have owned an estate called Anchovy Valley in Portland. In Britain until c. 1830, then apparently in Jamaica.

1. Andrew Gregory Johnston of Anchovy-valley Estate, died in 1850 his 65th year in St Thomas-in-the-East Jamaica.

2. William Gregory Johnston, the son of Elizabeth Jones and Andrew Gregory Johnston, was baptised at St Marylebone 27/06/1817 (born 14/06/1817). Jane Elizabeth Jones gave her father's name as Andrew Gregory Johnston planter when she married Edmund Girling at St Marylebone 28/04/1849. Andrew Johnston, a West India proprietor, bought Fritton Hall in 1819 and "went to Jamaica, soon after his purchase; and in July, 1830, the manor and estate were sold by auction at Yarmouth..."

Times 27/4/1850 p. 9; Times 16/6/1864 p.1 (the notice of the death of his daughter) showed Andrew Gregory Johnston as of Fritton Hall Suffolk and Anchovy-valley; Old Bailey Sessions online, Ref t18260406-199 (6th April 1826) theft of Andrew Gregory Johnston's purse: in his evidence Andrew Gregory Johnston said: 'I live in Suffolk.'
