Claimant or beneficiary

Biography

Claimed as executor of Henry Evans Holder (q.v.), under an indenture of conveyance for £2000, for the Joes River estate in Barbados. He was probably but not certainly the P. Caddell shown as owner with J. Olton of an estate named Harmonie in Surinam in 1819, given that Josiah Llewellyn Olton and other members of the Olton family appear in the will of Philip Caddell.

  1. In 1851 Philip Cadell aged 73 born Barbados 'fundholder' was living with his wife Mary Jane aged 63 also born Barbados at 18 Royal Crescent, Walcot, Bath with servants. In 1841 the couple was already at Royal Crescent, again with servants, with attributed ages of 65 and 50 respectively.

  2. Will of Philip Caddell [formerly of Barbados] of Bath Somerset proved 15/08/1853. In the will he disposed largely of personalty, in addition to his leasehold house in Royal Crescent in Bath.

  3. The Holder Family records in the Bristol Record Office detail the sale by Henry Evan Holder (d. 1817) of Joes River before his death and identify Philip Caddell as of Bath.

  4. The Philip Caddell who was a member of the Chamber of Commerce in Edinburgh in the 1820s appears unrelated.

  5. His widow Mary Jane Caddell late of Royal Crescent Bath left £7000 in 1862.
