London merchant and Notary Public, partner in Kops Coussmaker & Guitard, associated primarily with British Guiana but awarded a fraction of the compensation for the Woodstock estate in Jamaica.
Partnership of John Forbes and Arend Jacob Guitard, of Birchin Lane merchants trading under the firm of Kops, Coussmaker and Forbes, was dissolved 10/04/1829. Kops Cousmaker & Guitard were agents in 1837 for a claim on Covent Garden in British Guiana by Albert Voombergh (q.v.).
In 1841, Arend Guitard 'aged 70' was shown living at Ebenezer Terrace, Kennington Common with wife Henrietta [sic] aged 65 and children Anne, Julia and Charles. He had married Henriette de Beaune at St Peter Le Poer 24/06/1797. Under the will of Arend Jacob Guitard of Cornhill Durham [sic] proved 09/02/1848 he left monetary legacies of £1000 and £2000 respectively to his sons Charles Frederick and John William Guitard, and his residual estate to his daughters Julia Maria [illegible, possibly Jackson?, although Julia Maria Guitard had married Robert Clark at St Mark Kennington in 1826], Henrietta Julia Nieuwenhuys [sp?] and Anna Maria Guitard. He also left £10 each to his worthy friends Lannoy Henry Forbes and John Hopton Forbes for a [mourning] ring. Lannoy Henry Forbes and John Forbes had been the partners in Kops, Coussmaker and Forbes until retirement of Lannoy Henry Forbes in 1826.
Arend Jacob Guitard of Kennington Common was buried aged 81 at the South Metropolitan Cemetery (now known as the West Norwood Cemetery) 29/01/1848.
