given as Harriet Ann Mathews in the comepnsation records, one of dozens of legatees of William White awarded a share in the compensation for the enslaved people on Woodstock in St Ann Jamaica, many of which awardees having connections to Essex or parts of what is now east London.
- Almost certainly the Harriett [sic] Ann Matthews, daughter of Matthew and Ann Mary Matthews of Hackney, baptised 17/05/1807 at St Leonards Shoreditch. This Harriet Ann Matthews married Oliver Williams at St Leonards 25/02/1838 when she was described as of 5 New Gloucester Street Hoxton, daughter of Matthew Matthews cabinet-maker. Matthew Matthews had married Ann Mary Sawtell 20/05/1804 at St Andrew by the Wardrobe: other claimants under the same award were named Sawtell.
