Robert Montgomerie

A long-term resident of St Croix but by the 1830s living in Irvine Scotland, claimed with George Gordon Macdougall (q.v.) as owners of Sevilla in Trinidad, but both died before the compensation was awarded.

1. Will of Robert Montgomerie [sometime of St Croix, afterwards of Trinidad and at present] of Cottage near Irvine [made in 1835] proved [in London] 27/02/1844. The will conveyed his property, including his 'new villa' at Irvine and his Sevilla estate and enslaved people, in trust, to be divided between Peter Montgomerie, William Ewing Montgomerie and John Tod, with his slave-property in St Croix going to John Montgomerie then at St Croix 'my nephew.' His consignees were Messrs Eccles of Glasgow. He mentioned and provided for a natural son named Peter Montgomerie, who appears to have been a different man to the Peter Montgomerie who was one of the three main heirs.
