Charles Ridge, banker of Chichester, Sussex, counterclaimed unsuccessfully for compensation for Little Duers in Antigua as a judgement creditor (vs. John Duer, q.v.) by assignment for £5466 19s 61/2d.

  1. Charles Ridge, son of William Ridge (Mayor of Chichester) and Sarah was born 21/02/1788 and baptised 16/03/1788 at the Presbyterian or Unitarian Chapel in Boffins Lane, Chichester. In 1841, Charles Ridge, age 50, banker, born in county, was living in Chichester, Sussex, with his wife Tryphena age 40, their son John age 2 and 3 female servants. In 1851 Charles Ridge, age 51, Fundholder, born in Chichester, Sussex, was a visitor with his wife Tryphena in the household of Sarah Grogan at 2 Lyon Terrace, Middlesex. Death of Charles Ridge registered Q3 Brighton, Sussex.

  2. The banking partnership of William Ridge, Charles Ridge, and William Newland of Chichester was bankrupt by early 1842. The firm, originally John Chaldecott evolving into Ridge & Co., was also known as the Chichester Old Bank, failing in 1841 and shown as a past constituent of NatWest.
