Probably the Robert Henry Payne who was born in Stourton Castle, Staffordshire, c. 1797 and can be found in the censuses for 1841 (at St Mary Street, Bedford, age 55, Gentleman), 1851 (at Rusham House, Egham, Surrey, age 40, Independent), 1861 (at Bordian House, East Meon, Winchester, Hampshire, age 64, Landed Proprietor of 10 acres of arable land and 20 to pasture employing 1 labourer and 1 boy), 1871 (at Bordian, Winchester, age 76, landowner) and 1881 (at Broadbush, Petersfield, Hampshire, age 86, no profession or occupation). He was married to Louisa, around 15 years his junior, and they had a son Henry age 8 living with them in 1841 and a son M.B. age 5 living with them in 1851.
