Biography

Slave-owner in Jamaica, in Britain in 1830.

  1. There were 3 children of Peter Pattie Esquire and his wife Lydia Thompson baptised in Clarendon, Jamaica: Sarah (1815), William (1818) and Thomas (1820). Peter and Margaret Pattie had a daughter Elizabeth baptised in Vere (1831).

  2. No further trace has been found of William or Thomas so far. Marriage of Sarah Pattie: "At Mount Hindmost Great House, Clarendon, in Jamaica, on the 27th of May last, by the Rev. G. C. P. Fearon, Nicholas Grose, Esq., second son of Mr. Nicholas Grose, of Clan, in Lanivet, to Sarah, eldest daughter of the late Peter Pattie, Esq., of Lockfields, near Dumfries, Scotland." Nicholas and Sarah had two daughters born in Jamaica - Lydia T. (1844) and Gertrude (c. 1851). By 1861 the family had moved to Cornwall, England (where Nicholas had been born) and were living at 2 Kirkland, Bodmin. In 1871 Sarah, now widowed, was living with her daughter Lydia and her son-in-law Thomas Ed. Burnard at 62 Fore Street, Kingsbridge, Devon.

  3. Peter Pattie was given variously as of Lydiafield Dumfries and of Lochfield in the case of Elspeth Pattie v David J. Thomson in 1843.
