Biography

Anna Mitchell of Threadeneedle Street counterclaimed unsuccessfully as judgement creditor against Michael Muirhead (who was the administrator of Alexander Muirhead) for an award for 12 enslaved people in Manchester Jamaica. Anna Mitchell was almost certainly the widow of John Mitchell of Mincing Lane (q.v.), whose half-brother and nephew were both called Alexander Muirhead. Her address might imply some commercial activity, which has yet to be traced.

  1. The will of Anna Mitchell formerly of 37 Brook Street but late of 27 Regents Road Regents Park was proved 06/10/1868 by the Rev. Muirhead Mitchell the son, sole executor, personal estate under £35,000. In 1841 she had been living in Queens Square Bloomsbury, Independent, aged 50 born Middlesex with son Charles aged 25. She has not yet been traced in the 1851 census. Her son Rev. Muirhead Mitchell left £100,000 in 1876.
