In a codicil to his will he left his interest as mortgagee-in-possession of Providence [the enslaved people and stock on Providence estate being, he said, his own property] to be sold for his wife Margaret's benefit but if not sold then to pass to his nephew Capt. James Evans of the Royal Artillery.
