Biography

Slave-owner in Jamaica, apparently resident, dying c. 1820. The compensation for the enslaved people on his Strathmore and Logwoods estate(s) was awarded to his executor Peter Hogg, but appears to have been for the benefit of his [John Hogg's] natural children with his housekeeper Margaret Campbell.

  1. Margaret Blythe, 3 years and George Kirlew, 1 year, children of John Hogg of the Logwoods Park[?] in Westmoreland and Margaret Campbell, a free woman of colour, baptised in Westmoreland 03/02/1816. John Campbell, aged 3 years, and Alexander, 1 month, quadroon sons of John Hogg and Margaret Campbell of the Logwood(s) in the parish of Westmoreland were baptised at Mesopotamia 22/12/1819.
