Biography

Liverpool merchant, born Thomas Hayhurst, nephew of James France, partner in France, Fletcher & Co. of Liverpool, brother-in-law of John Cropper (q.v.) and father of James France France (q.v.).

  1. Trustees of James France of Liverpool bought the Bostock estate in Cheshire in 1798 for his nephew Thomas Hayhurst. The house was already standing (built c. 1775) but was significantly modified in the mid 19thC. The estate remained in the family for over 150 years.
