Of Heybridge Essex and Jamaica. Father of Julines Hering, Oliver Hering, Catherine Gordon (each of whom q.v.) and of Eleanor Milbanke, father-in-law of John Gordon and J. Peniston Milbanke (each of whom q.v.). A third daughter married Rev. John Lumley-Savile, the 7th Earl of Scarbrough, and fourth Mary Helen married Henry Middleton, a South Carolinan politician and slave-owner. Family papers for the Herings are held at the South Carolina Historical Society.
