Biography

Of Lime Street London, West India merchant, father of Clement, Anthony and probably Nicholas Kirwan (each of whom q.v.).

  1. 'Mortgagee of Nugents 1774; amassed a fortune of £150,000; died at Bath 10/03/1799 aet. 78.' In his will he left his real estate in Antigua and Epsom in trust to sell. He left monetary legacies totalling £48,000 to his children: £10,000 to Clement; £8000 to Matthew; £6000 Charlotte; £3000 to Robert French Kirwan over and above the £3000 already advanced; and £6000 to each of his other sons Nicholas Tuite, Thomas and Anthony. He left £1000 each to his grandchildren Caroline, John and Antonietta [?] Byrne. His residuary legatees were his sons Clement and Matthew.
