Son of Samuel Byam Athill (q.v.) and Mary Lynch, brother-in-law of Charles Turner and uncle of Samuel Athill Turner (both of whom q.v). [His cousin James born in 1791 the son of John Athill and Mary Redhead was also in the Royal Navy.]
