Biography

Co-claimant with her siblings George, Henry, Agnes and Robert Waterton for the compensation for Plantation La Jalousie in British Guiana, which was paid to mortgagees. Daughter of Christopher Waterton and Anne Waddell, and ancestor of the 6th Earl of Gainsborough.

  1. Matilda, daughter of Christopher Waterton and his wife Anne nee Waddell was baptised in a Catholic ceremony in Yorkshire in December 1803. Matilda Waterton of Adwich-le-Street, Yorkshire, married Edmund Jerningham of Cossey, Norfold, in Paris in 1829.

  2. Executrix of her husband Edmund William Jerningham who died in 1860 at 43 Rutland Gate, St Margaret's Westminster (effects under £4000). Will of Matilda Jerningham formerly of Cheltenham but late of 29 St Stephen's Road Bayswater, who died 14/07/1865, was proved 11/08/1865, effects £1500 (resworn from £1000).
